Captain Cook Highway, Far North Queensland
The road between Cairns and Cape Tribulation is a scenic extravaganza that winds alongside the Far North Eastern Coast of Australia. The Captain Cook Highway and State Route 44 are part of the highways network system that circumnavigate Australia. The road follows the coast of the Coral Sea and at times provide unrestricted views of the Ocean as the road snakes on the edge of the water. There are a few vantage points allowing for the cars to spot and admire the scenery. The road provides access to many beautiful and unpopulated beaches along the way. The ocean views are complemented by spectacular mountain scenery, with a stunning display of color:lush green vegetation on one side of the road, blue and turquoise water on the other side. Amongst the attraction are the many beach resorts. Port Douglas is a village that has managed to keep its charm and small size, away from high rises and mass tourism. Continue North towards Mossman Gorge, a very important Aboriginal site, and cross the crocodile infested Daintree River on the ferry to reach Cape Tribulation. Enjoy the beach or walk under the canopy of the rain forest but beware of the Crocodiles!
